AgLab: Science for a Growing Mind
Welcome to AgLab, ARS’s new website dedicated to students, educators, and parents who are interested in exploring the intersection of where food meets science. Here you can learn about agricultural research going on where you live; try a fun, challenging experiment at home or at school; watch engaging videos on natural phenomena; and learn how our young ARS scientists pursued their careers in agricultural science.
AgLab is designed with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) students in mind, where young innovators with a thirst for science can feed their hunger to improve the world. AgLab will also engage with students on ARS social media platforms: conducting Q&A sessions with young scientists, holding contests, and inviting discussions regarding student interests and concerns in agricultural science.
“We have some of the most innovative scientists in the world,” says ARS Administrator Dr. Chavonda Jacobs-Young. “We want to encourage STEM students to consider a career at USDA, where they can tackle some of the world’s most pressing challenges.”
ARS represents a diverse group of entomologists, pathologists, microbiologists, veterinarians, economists, social scientists, communications experts, engineers, IT specialists, and others who deliver agricultural discoveries through scientific excellence. ARS is always on the lookout for students who have a passion for science and food and want to help meet the grand challenges of wiping out hunger, clothing everyone, fueling the world, and protecting the environment.
“ARS needs bright minds, out-of-the-box thinkers, and those with a passion for food and science,” Dr. Jacobs-Young said. “Our new AgLab site will help young innovators connect with agricultural science projects and see how ARS scientists are improving agriculture here and around the world.”
Check back often and be sure to share AgLab with friends, family, and colleagues.
